General Information

1. During the first two years (60 hours) most College of Education students will be advised through the office of Academic Services and Teacher Certification. The Academic Services advising team is housed in two locations; 166 Taylor Education Building and 201 Seaton Building (all Kinesiology and Health Promotion students). After the completion of 60 hours, most students will seek admission to a teacher preparation program. Upon being admitted by a program faculty, students are assigned a regular faculty advisor in the appropriate teacher certification program. Students who are not admitted to a teacher preparation program after completing 60 hours will continue to be advised out of the Academic Services and Teacher Certification office.

2. First-time registration Advising Conferences are provided for new, transferring, and returning UK students. These conferences are arranged by the UK office of Admissions at the time students apply for admission to the university. After the first registration, students will begin the registration process each semester by seeing an advisor and having their "advisor holds" lifted in the UK computer registration system. Advising is mandatory for registration.

3. College of Education students whose last names begin with A-K are assigned Rita Stevenson, (e-mail rmstev2@uky.edu, phone 859-257-4639) as their advisor, and students whose last names begin with L-Z are assigned Linda Hensley, (e-mail cedlh@uky.edu, phone 859-257-8848). All Kinesiology and Health Promotion students are assigned to Dr. Steve Parker, 201 Seaton Building, 859-257-7904 (e-mail spark01@uky.edu). Early Childhood majors are assigned to Dr. Rose Boulay (e-mail rose.boulay@uky.edu, phone 257-1229).

4. Advising schedules are posted outside 166 Taylor Education Building and 201 Seaton Building. During Priority Advising weeks, (approximately one month before Priority Registration begins) students will sign up for an individual appointment. Students who have been assigned to a regular faculty advisor should check with that faculty member for information about advising.

5. Be warned: many students postpone seeing an advisor until the day their registration window opens, and are disappointed when there are no advising appointments available. Remember, advising holds are not lifted on demand.

Advising for students pursuing a Secondary Education major

1. At the lower division level (years 1 & 2), Secondary Education majors will be advised in Academic Services and Teacher Certification, 166 Taylor Education Building. However, Secondary Education majors are urged to make contact with secondary education faculty members during their first two years in order to receive the benefit of their counsel about teaching and certification. All secondary education majors must see an advisor in their intended subject matter area to be approved for advanced standing.

2. Secondary education majors must be admitted to advanced standing upon completion of 60 hours. Forms are available at Academic Services and Teacher Certification, 166 Taylor Education Building. Once a secondary education student has been admitted to advanced standing, he/she will be assigned to a faculty member in his/her subject matter area for advising.

3. Contact persons for information about options in the secondary education program are as follows:
