ITC Computer Classroom Policy Adopted April 6, 1995 Revised October 29, 2004 The College of Education has three computer classrooms in the Taylor Education building. Room 140, 245 and 246 are PC/Windows classrooms. Room 240 is an Apple Macintosh classroom. These computer classrooms were created to be used by and for College of Education classes. The classrooms are scheduled for classes (as are all COE classrooms) by the Associate Dean's office and are listed in the University of Kentucky "Schedule of Classes" book. The computer classrooms are serviced and managed by the College of Education's Instructional Technology Center, IT Services, under the direction of the IT Services Manager.
The primary function of the College of Education computer classrooms is to serve as instructional computing facilities for College of Education classes. First priority will be given to College of Education classes scheduled by the Associate Dean's office. Other instructional computing functions of these facilities for College of Education classes and programs include: assigned computing laboratories sessions, COE courses that use the classrooms for individual class sessions, and coursework and class assignments that supplement regularly scheduled class periods. Subject to availability, the classrooms can also be used for workshops, training, and seminars. All computer classrooms are to be configured and regularly maintained in a "standard configuration" which is prescribed by IT Services in collaboration with faculty using the classrooms for their courses. All equipment in the rooms is to remain in the classrooms in this "standard configuration" unless arrangements are made with the IT Services Manager. All use of ITC/COE Computer Classrooms must be in accordance with University of Kentucky established policies and procedures.
In order to provide time for professors to arrange class sessions, add sections, or modify published course schedules, the ITC will not schedule classroom activities (other than classes scheduled by the Associate Dean's office) for a given semester until the completion of a three week period following the last day of pre-registration for that semester. The computer classrooms may be used for instructional sessions/functions other than classes when the classrooms are not being used by classes. The IT Services Manager is responsible for scheduling all sessions other than regularly scheduled classes. The computer classrooms may be scheduled for other instructional sessions providing there is no conflict with scheduled classes or events in the labs and the classrooms are reserved in advance.
Due to the need for maintenance and service, the computer classrooms must have blocks of time that are not scheduled for instructional purposes. The unpredictable nature of maintaining the computer classrooms makes it impossible to always schedule maintenance. All unscheduled hours will be considered available for maintenance. The computer classrooms are protected by alarm systems and keyless entry locks. Security codes are required for access to the rooms. Arrangements for security codes must be made through the IT Services Manager. Codes are intended for use only by the individual to whom they are assigned. Security codes are changed annually, beginning with Fall Semester. Priority for the use of computer classrooms is as follows: Scheduling of the College of Education computer classrooms will be arranged on a semester by semester basis and in the following sequence*:
In order to classify a computer classroom request as complete, the ITC needs the following information:
All software installed on all College of Education computer classroom computers must be legally licensed software. The licenses and original disks for all software installed in the computer classroom (or any ITC facility) must be physically located in the ITC during the time frame of its use. All software installation must be arranged in advance with the IT Services Manager and installed under his/her direction.
