In the Commonwealth, LISTSERVs are one of the ways to support communications among students, teachers and administrators and Kentucky Department of Education staff. We have provided you with an easy way to subscribe to a KERA related discussion list. Please stay on the list as long as you find the information useful.
KRS 157.665 and 157.615 reference the requirement for a KETS Master Plan with the details of what technology tools are required. All versions of the Master Plan including the most current one, identify e-mail as a required tool for all teachers and administrators (students as well, even though their names are not visible on the Exchange Global Address list outside their district). All school 176 school districts have been given the necessary funds to pay for e-mail accounts for every student, teacher and administrator that we have in Kentucky.
701 KAR 5:120 requires the use of only MS Exchange e-mail accounts when using school resource (school owned computer, school data lines, or when using the school dial-up services when working from home) at any time. This means they shall not use any third party vendors (e.g. hotmail.com)when in those situations. The KAR also requires that the use of these MS Exchange accounts must always be for professional versus personal/entertainment purposes.
The number in parentheses is subscribers as of 08/13/2009. The total number of subscribed addresses in 33,859.The total number of subscribed addresses was 39,421 in 2007 vs 29,360 in 2005. The data from 2006 is not presented due to the turn-over of mail systems by the Department of Education. In 2004 we had 25,377 subscribers to the major KERA LISTSERVs. In 2003 we had 21,921 subscribers to the KERA related LISTSERVs.
